Festo, Esslingen, Germany

Festo is a leading worldwide provider of automation technology for factory and process automation. As a global, independent family-owned company with its headquarters in Esslingen, Germany, it has become the performance leader in its industry over the last 50 years, thanks to its innovations and problem-solving competency in all areas of pneumatics as well as its unique range of industrial training and vocational education programs.

As Festo takes part in multiple exhibitions to showcase their latest innovations, they have several booth concepts that travel around the world, from exhibition to exhibition. The time came where Festo wanted a redesign of the lighting system incorporated in their booth concept. The main request to have a qualitative all-in-one solution with a focus on ease of installation as time is of the essence when building up and breaking down the lighting in the booth, getting ready to travel to the next exhibition.

It was clear from the start that this was all about customization, where we know we are strong at. Together with our partner, UnternehmenForm GmbH & Co. KG, we started searching for the perfect basis to build upon to ultimately meet the customer’s needs and wishes. There was a need for a fixture that has the modularity to supply the required kind of light in several specific situations. Sometimes indirect lighting combined with general lighting and spot lighting, sometimes used individually, or in various combinations. An all-in-one solution was sought. The flexibility of our profiles made these the perfect tool to come to this.

The SLD75 was the basis on which the final design was built. A double line of ledstrip has been applied as uplight whereas the downlight is a combination of integrated LEDmodules for general lighting and incorporated tracks on either side so our Kanons can be used downwards and upwards to highlight certain objects, billboards, etc. Really an all-in-one solution catering to every lighting need at the booth. To answer to the requirement of ease of installation, special cables and 380V connectors were added on either side of the profile making it possible to simply click and connect them together electrically. Special mounting plates that slide in the endplates of the profiles are used to fix them in a line and onto the main structure of the booth.

“Since there were lots of requirements to be met in this system, the project was quite challenging for us. Festo is participating in 120 to 150 exhibitions worldwide during a year; this means that lighting should be wrapped and unwrapped rapidly in variant situations for a temporary usage. In Modular Lighting Instruments and UnternehmenForm we found extraordinary competent and flexible partners. I always felt with confidence that they would find successful solutions, even in difficult situations. Thank you very much for that."
