Modular Lighting Instruments. Architectural lighting with attitude.
Positively opinionated. Don’t believe in blending in. Always leading the discussion. Modular Lighting Instruments has been making high quality architectural lighting with attitude since 1980.
Architectural lighting is about finding the right balance. Between the aesthetic appeal of a space and the function and quality of the light. In other words, creating architectural beauty but also making sure that it serves our needs.
So that we can function at our best in a specific environment.
CHOOSING ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING.
Apart from the architectural space itself, the luminaire choices of the architect or interior designer depend on many other factors. Like the concept or purpose of the space, and the creative mind of the designer. Every designer you ask will come up with a different lighting solution for the same space.
We believe that lighting should be empowering. That’s why our light fixtures help designers to create new options and original configurations. The modular lighting idea is that one light fixture isn’t just one light fixture. One single product design serves multiple purposes. Breaking set ideas about which lights and where.
ALL ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTS ARE NOT EQUAL
What sets Modular Lighting Instruments apart? It’s about finding the perfect balance between innovative design, expanding applications, and using the latest technology.
Design in extreme detail.
When we talk about design, we don’t just mean the overall product design. We are obsessed by detail. It’s the things you might not notice that are most important to us. We never stop thinking about how we can make a product better. Using magnetic plates to hide wires and screws. Anodization for a smoother colour execution on aluminium. Powder finishing for structured colours. It's the small things that make all the difference.
Application. One is many.
The modular approach to function, shape, colours and finishes offers the designer inspiring and unlimited options. We are continuously extending product families and finding new applications.
We always think ahead, especially in terms of technology. We offer only highly efficient LED lighting units. As well as a standard CRI 90 for all colour temperatures. Which is not standard at all. For customer convenience: different colour temperatures are available for all products. In other words, it’s not something you have to request.
It’s because we care about providing superior quality that we design and make products in-house. That’s why we make our own reflectors. We can use aluminium rather than the plastic that many other companies use. Doing it our-self guarantees greater flexibility and the ability to customize all our designs.
Pista linear spots
When you look up to see what’s giving small, charming light bursts underneath our slim rail, you’ll see it: a trail of tiny but powerful LED spots. As they are fully integrated in the profile, nothing sticks out beneath.
Nothing short of the unexpected, Pupil is full of surprises and contradictions. Using nature as his muse, Dutch designer Basten Leijh created this organic, quirky shape: the downlighter that does the opposite. Nonconformity and functionality blend beautifully in our new family, and there’s even more to it, than meets the eye.
Thimble evokes minimalism, surprise and technology all at once. Subtle curves, slightly revealing colours, high-quality lens and LED. With its deep-recessed and glare-free light source, Thimble’s clean and seamless execution makes it a quiet yet sophisticated choice for high-end residential or hospitality settings.
Our new miniature spot is an extremely simple cylinder-shaped light fixture with a lot to show. Endless applications, a variety of rich colours, phenomenal yogic flexibility. A deep-recessed light source for a glare-free light effect. To express a refined and minimalistic look & feel on walls or low ceiling executions, or to add on, as a stylish companion on our Pista track system. This little spot will make a big impression.
For designer James van Vossel, it was time to rethink pure, simple forms. That’s when the tube came in. And out. Hollow reignites the excitement and mystery surrounding this classical shape. How does it work? Where’s the light coming from? Hollow won’t be revealed until you touch it.
Inspired by the yin-yang symbol, a sinuous 2mm S-shaped line divides Semih in two equal, complementary parts: the hard, solid part mounted to the ceiling and the soft, round lamp housing emitting light. Semih is exceptionally easy to install, thanks to strong mounting magnets. Now in two sizes, Semih is an award-winning luminaire with positive, directed energy.
Our Dent family is made up of S, M and L. Three lovely sizes to make your light installation grand and intriguing, and to create a zigzagging pattern using different shapes. Stunning as one, and as part of a group, emanating soft light from two sides.
